Message from the President

At a time of transformational change in our industry, last year, Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) and its employees demonstrated an unprecedented commitment to reach out to our communities in creative and meaningful ways. Whether through community involvement, health and wellness initiatives, environmental sustainability, diversity and inclusion, ethics and compliance, or serving and educating first-time consumers on health insurance, we stayed true to our purpose: to do everything in our power to stand with our members in sickness and in health.

In fact, we:

  • Increased volunteerism by nearly 50 percent over the previous year, as employees spent more than 45,000 hours helping our communities;
  • Provided more than 150,000 free immunizations and other health services to children and adults at risk; and
  • Helped more than 6.7 million children through Healthy Kids, Healthy FamiliesĀ®, our three-year initiative that has been extended due to the success of the effort.

With the addition of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana to the HCSC family, we also extended our commitment to local communities in Montana.

Finally, through our Be Covered campaign and more than 250 community partner organizations, we informed 3.6 million consumers about new health insurance options available to them. The success of Be Covered speaks to the power of community and the importance of our local relationships. In addition, our extensive efforts to expand access to quality, affordable health care, while other insurers chose to limit their participation on the exchanges, demonstrate our people-over-profits priority.

2013 was a truly remarkable year for our industry and our company. On behalf of our more than 20,000 employees, I invite you to read our latest Social Responsibility Report and learn how we responded to the challenges and opportunities to make an important difference in the lives of our local communities and 14 million members.
